Now in it's 30th year, the Vintage Triumph Register National Convention is going back to it's roots in more ways than one.  The VTR National Convention started as a Weekend get together between what is now the Illinois Sport Owners Association and the Detroit Triumph Sportcar Club.  This get together grew into what was then known as the North American Triumph Challenge.  The North American Triumph Challenge now returns to Southeast Michigan after a 24 year hiatus.

Press Information:
Each year, the Vintage Triumph Register holds a National Convention in North America. The Vintage Triumph Register National will be held August 4-8, 2008.  It is hosted by a Chapter or Zone of the Vintage Triumph Register, this year being hosted by the Detroit Triumph Sportscar Club. Although there are many activities at a National, the prime events are based around activities with Triumphs. This year’s event will sponsor an Autocross, TSD Rallye, Fun or Gimmick Rallye, Funkana and a Concours d'Elegance car show.   Special events include a Triumph Spitfire rebuild in 48 hours and a keynote address by author/columnist B.S (Burt) Levy.   The Event concludes with a reception, dinner, and an awards presentation. Average attendance of a Vintage Triumph Register National has ranged from 200 to 325 cars.

Saturday, August 16th
GTA Drive-In Night
Swan Drive-Inn
Blue Ridge, GA

We will be reprising our movie night drive to the Swan Drive In on Saturday, August 16th.  We won't know until closer to the date what the feature movie will be, but that hasn't stopped us in the past from enjoying a nice drive up to Blue Ridge to enjoy a blast from the past.  Movies typically get started around 9 P.M, and the GTA will be organizing a drive up prior to the movie.

We’ll meet near Cumming at the Old Town Country Restaurant. They have a breakfast buffet that will fill you up for a good drive. We’ll need to be on the road by about 10:00 AM, so try to show up for breakfast at or before 9:00. The restaurant is on GA hwy. 20, about 3 miles west of downtown Cumming on the left.

There will be a scenic drive to Blue Ridge, ending about lunch time. For those who want to make the drive without staying for the film, you can venture into the historic district of Blue Ridge for lunch and a little tourism.  Highway 5/515 in Blue Ridge leads back to I-575, so it’s easy to get back to Atlanta if you’re in a hurry.  If you’re staying for the movies and want to spend the night, we have some rooms reserved at the Blue Ridge Days Inn, right on the main highway. Call them at 706-632-2100.  As in the past, the afternoon can be spent at the motel pool or visiting the historic district. When dusk approaches, we’ll head out to the Swan Drive In (http://www.swan-drive-in.com/) for the show. Pick up a bucket of KFC or a Subway sandwich for a picnic at on the lawn.  The GTA has a talent for being the first cars in line, so we can grab the whole front row and can sit on the lawn. Be sure to bring lawn chairs and your portable radio.  If you can’t make the morning drive, you can meet us at the Swan.

Come early for a good spot with the rest of the gang.

September 2008

September 3rd - 7th
Kasner Cup Vintage Races
Watkins Glen, NY

It’s like a planetary alignment for Triumph fans, only way cooler, since you can actually see it: Hundreds of historic Triumphs from around the globe are converging on Watkins Glen September 3-7 for the Kastner Cup Vintage Race, presented by Classic Motorsports magazine and Moss Motors.

Among the luminaries will be the famed Group 44 factory race cars, the first production Triumph sports car, and — of course — Kas Kastner, the legendary Triumph tuner, racer and head of the North American Triumph Competition Department.

It’s all part of the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association’s U.S. Vintage Grand Prix — the largest vintage race weekend in the east. Kastner will present the Kastner Cup to the racer who best embodies the spirit of the marque and the event for the award. He’ll also be on hand to assist racers and talk to fans of the marque.

TS1LO, a 1953 TR2 that holds the distinction of being the first production Triumph sports car off the line, will also be there. Joe Richards, who painstakingly restored TS1LO to its historic original specs, will be honored by Friends of Triumph, the North America-based group of Triumph racers and race fans.

Triumph enthusiasts and racers will also be welcomed into the Friends of Triumph Hospitality Tent and into the town of Watkins Glen, where the local Chamber of Commerce organizes the yearly Grand Prix Festival on Friday.

Triumph enthusiasts have an opportunity to enter in a Triumph-only road rally, and selected SVRA race cars will make a trip down from the track, park on display, and then take parade laps of the original 6.6 mile street circuit.

Check the Watkins Glen site for ticket info.

For technical questions or to enter a Triumph, contact Joe Alexander at Friends of Triumph.

More information on the Grand Prix Festival is available at grandprixfestival.com.

Southeast British Car Festival 2008

The Peachtree MG Registry invites you to join us this fall for a relaxing, southern-style

weekend in the North Georgia mountains at The Dillard House in Dillard, GA. Old-fashioned Dillard House cooking is as mouth watering as always. It’s not fancy, it’s just good! The porch swings and rocking chairs are perfect for visiting with friends and swapping stories – you’ll feel right at home. The Dillard House offers it all with a family-oriented atmosphere.

Festival events are listed below. Other activities include horseback riding, swimming, tennis, and antiquing. For those who want to get-away, book a romantic “chalet for two”, away from the crowd.

September scenery in the mountains is not to be missed; enjoy it at a leisurely self-paced

tour, or on a rally tour.

A word of caution, September in the Georgia Mountains is very popular. Make your reservations early.

American British Reliability Run

America's British Reliability Run Includes Three Separate Runs for 2008

In it's sixth year, America's British Reliability Run is a challenging, but fun, driving event that so far has raised more than $130,000 for worthy children's charities. This year, three separate 800-mile runs on the same weekend, September 27-28, 2008, will benefit three highly-rated, local childrens' charities. One run starts in Michigan, another in Pennsylvania, and yet another in Alabama! Each two-person team pays their own expenses out-of-pocket and has a goal of raising $500 for the charity.

Up to 40 British cars of any marque or vintage may participate in each run. Even if you can't participate in the run, please support this effort by making a donation of any size. Again, teams pay their own expenses, so 100% of your donation goes to the charity, please help us increase our total! To register your car, donate, or read more about the run, visit http://www.abrr.org.
