British Classic Car Show - Saturday, June 6 2009
Please mark your calendars for an exciting and unique British Classic car show event on Saturday, June 6. All British cars are eligible.  Winning classes are: First, second, and third place class awards (depending on number of entries) – Best of Show – first, second, and third place awards. Special awards from sponsors. Participants will receive one ballot.  Winners may participate in awards ceremony for Games. Car Clubs are encouraged to set up tents in order to recruit members and educate the public on their classic cars, history, and unique aspects of their particular various models.  Limited vendor opportunities are available. Your registration fee of $25 includes: entrance of car in show, one admission to the Greenville Scottish Games (additional Discounted Games tickets may be purchased at pre-registration only for $10.) and one parking pass.  There is no charge to attend the show. There is a $5 per vehicle parking fee. Registrants will receive a complete participant packet by mail. Contact britishcarshow@bellsouth.net for more information. Show Rules: All show vehicles must register with the car show registration staff. Registration day of show is from 9:30 AM until noon. No registration after noon. Parking is restricted to assigned locations All show cars must be driven on to the field under their own power Cars on the show grounds must remain until 3:30 PM Show vehicles must be on the show field at the time of award to receive an award.

Atlanta Garage Party Night

In case you are new to this list, I schedule a party in someone's garage every month on the third Friday of the month.

We try to have this in a home garage, not a business.   We want to meet the owner's dog, snoop around and see what tools we might be able to borrow the next weekend, annoy their neighbors, etc.  Basically make sure they are not living like a hermit or anything like that.   We have the party at people's homes that usually come to the parties, not at someone's house that we dont really know.   If you want to host a party in the future, then come join in the fun for a few months.   The party is for people that own collectible vehicles of any type, and work on them themselves.

So this month our host is Harry Jenkins.    The party always begins at 8pm, but come when you like.

Harry has just gotten his 1928 "series 72" Chrysler body back from being straightened and primer'd.   The body will amaze you if you had seen it leave for the shop.  You cant tell that metal was spliced into the body from either side of the panel.

GTA Wolf Mountain Vineyards Run

On Saturday, June 20 the GTA will take a drive to Wolf Mountain Winery, north of Dahlonega.

For those driving up from Atlanta, the assembly point will be on Holcomb Bridge Road east of 400.  We will meet at the BP gas station that is on the north side Holcomb Bridge (not the BP that is on the south side of Holcomb Bridge, across the street from the assembly point). 

Assembly time will be 10 AM on Saturday, June 20 with departure around 10:30.  We will have a reservation for lunch at the winery for 12:30.

Weather is supposed to be sunny and hot on Saturday, so bring your hat and sunscreen.

On July 4 the GTA will host John Macartney’s Triumph Trans-AmeriCan Drive.  The story so far is that John, a former Standard-Triumph legend, is driving 10,000 miles across America and Canada to raise money and awareness for Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome.  He will drive a Stag that is currently undergoing a total restoration near Chicago.  His plan is to meet up with Triumph clubs for shows or drives.  His tour shows up in Atlanta for a drive on the Fourth of July. 

We will meet at the Sears Parking lot at Cumberland Mall at 4:00 on Saturday the 4^th for a nice drive through the countryside to end up in Rome around 7pm.  The mayor agreed to reserve a parking lot for us.  We’ll have a dinner picnic and a short walk to view the Independence Day fireworks display.  Get up early to run the Peachtree Road Race, take a nap, and then meet us at Cumberland Mall for a good time.  John is a great guy and will be happy to talk about “Life at Triumph in the UK in the 1960s.”  Don’t miss this opportunity to meet a very special man in the world of Triumph.

There are two ways you can help John raise money for PTSD:

·         John is producing rallyboards with individual numbers for the cars that participate.  In addition each crew member will get a certificate attesting to your participation in the event.  Your car will get a British Road Tax type certificate for the windshield to show the car’s participation.  The rallyboard will come to you as a PDF file to print and then attach to your car as a magnet or with zip ties.  The cost to get a rallyboard is $15.00

·         Local British Car related businesses and The Roadster Factory have given prizes for us to raffle to help John raise money for the Sidran Institute.  Tickets are $3 each or 4 for $10.  Please contact Joe Earnest on 678 778 6175 or joeearnest@bellsouth.net to get tickets.  We raised $125 at British Motorcar Day but we’d really like to get that number up.  Please consider helping a great cause for the opportunity to wins some great prizes.
